It can be the strangest thing.  There we are, having a nice cup of coffee with a friend, mate, sibling or parent when all of a sudden, they say something and Bam!!! We feel ourselves shut down, our back goes up and we begin to feel defensive.  What is it that makes us feel this way and does it serve us?

No one really teaches us how to receive well.  Of course we have been taught the basics.  If someone gives you something, be grateful and say thank you.  But something about this lesson has made the transaction feel uncomfortable.  It is as though the act of receiving is somehow less valuable than the act of giving.
